ORGANISATION SETUP

 

History & Background:

      The Department of Fisheries was created under the Govt. of Orissa and Ministry of Fisheries and A.R.D. in the year 1956 and expanded in the year 1972. Subsequently restructured in the year 1993. The Fish Farmers Development Agency (FFDA), chairmanship of the Collector & District Magistrate, Koraput. Fisheries Districts matches well with the Revenue Districts throughout the State. The Fisheries Department in Koraput District is headed by Assistant Director of Fisheries-cum-C.E.O., FFDA (Koraput). To look after the fisheries developmental works at grass-root level, Fisheries Extension Officers /Fisheries Demonstrators have been posted under the control of Block Development Officers in 14 Blocks of the District. The District Fishery Office at Jayanagar, Jeypore coordinates the overall pisciculture development in the district.

Objective / Purpose:
    To boost fish production of the District by increasing feasible water bodies as well as by implementing scientific method of pisciculture is private & GP ponds & tanks, MIPs and reservoirs.
    To provide quality fish and prawn seed at Govt. prescribed rate.
    To motivate/train the unemployed youth/fish farmer/entrepreneur on scientific methods of fish farming, that provides gainful employment to the unemployed, through suitable awareness camps, trainings & exposure visits and also by providing subsidy.
    To strengthen village women organized as SHGs by providing gainful employment through fish culture.
    To strengthen traditional fish farmer through adoption of intensive / composite / integrated fish farming system.
    To strength the traditional fishermen with advanced method of fish catching from river, canal, reservoirs, ponds etc.
