FEMALE CROSSBRED CALF REARING PROGRAMME:

This scheme seeks to assist the dairy farmers to rear cross bred heifer calves. The main aim of the scheme is to provide proper nutrition to enable the calves to mature earlier and produce more milk. The cross bred heifer calves are selected from the age group of 4-10 months. The feed is supplied from the 4th month up to 28th months or calving whichever is earlier. Under the scheme farmers will be assisted so as to enable them to provide nutrition to their female calves. The calves booked under the scheme will be insured and routine deworming will also be done. This programme was introduced by the F. & A.R.D. department, Govt. of Orissa during 2010 - 11 in collaboration with OMFED & funded through RKVY. During the year 2010 - 11, 163 Nos. of C.B. female calves have already been selected in our District & they are being supplied with cattle feed on 50% subsidized rate by the KMNR Milk Union, Jeypore.

But the scheme is only applicable for Milk Producers Cooperative Society Areas (MPCS). But there are not enough MPCS areas in our district resulting less no. of farmers getting the benefit of the scheme.
